Automatic upgrade of FreePBX

Postby CRM User » Tue Apr 04, 2017 12:53 pm

Version 14 of FreePBX includes an automatic upgrade feature. Since your manual has a specific procedure for upgrading the configuration generator (FreePBX) what should I do?

The automatic upgrade feature of FreePBX poses a number of risks to your system, including changing the cluster members to incompatible states. Telium recommends that you disable the automatic upgrades and only perform upgrades following the steps outlined in the HAAst operations guide (see http://telium.ca/pages/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=124).

Aside from risks to the cluster, Schmooze/Sangoma has a reputation for releasing updates that break the PBX (only to be fixed by updates a week later). Most commercial installations of FreePBX avoid updates altogether, unless absolutely necessary (for a feature or security update). Even then, updates should be carefully tested before being promoted to production servers.

As most mid to large Asterisk installations do not use FreePBX this problem will primarily affect home office and small office users.
